My Cargo Racks
Our methodology

Comment nous testons

Chaque produit passe par les quatre mêmes étapes.

Bike rack loaded for a highway shakedown run before publishing a review
Vérification des sangles d'un porte-vélo avant un essai routier

The 4-step process

1

Research

We cross-check manufacturer specs against owner forums, etrailer listings, and independent test data. If a rack is not actually sold for the vehicle a brand claims, we find out before the buyer does. We pull weight ratings, dimensions, materials, and fitment data from at least three independent sources.

2

Hands-on testing

We assemble each rack the way you would, time the install, document hardware gotchas, and drive with it loaded. We check fitment on real vehicles and listen for wind noise above 65 mph. Every rack gets a highway shakedown run before we form an opinion.

3

Scoring

Each product is rated 0 to 100 across build quality, install difficulty, fitment range, wind noise, and long-term durability. One score per dimension, no marketing math. The overall score is a weighted average — build quality and safety carry the most weight.

4

Publishing

Every piece we publish has a named author, a last-updated date, and at least two honest cons per product. If it does not earn the recommendation, we do not fake one. Articles are reviewed by a second team member before going live.

Scoring dimensions

Build quality

Materials, welds, hardware, coating — does it feel like it will last?

Install difficulty

Time to assemble, tools required, hardware gotchas, solo-friendly?

Fitment range

How many vehicles does it actually fit? Do fit kits add cost?

Wind noise

Measured at 65+ mph. Audible inside the cabin? Whistling?

Value

What you get for what you pay. Includes fit kit and accessory costs.

Long-term durability

Rust resistance, UV exposure, bolt fatigue after repeated use.

Every product on MyCargoRacks receives a score from 0 to 100 across six dimensions — build quality, install difficulty, fitment range, wind noise, value, and long-term durability — with no pay-to-play placements and a minimum of two honest cons per product.

What we don't do

✕

Accept free product samples in exchange for reviews

✕

Allow brands to pay for placement in our "best of" lists

✕

Publish reviews without a named author and a last-updated date

✕

Recommend a product that hasn't earned it — even if it means losing the commission

✕

Hide affiliate relationships — our disclosure is above the fold on every article
