The BoatLoader EVO is a rear-loading roller that works with kayaks and canoes up to 80 lbs. The integrated roller lets you slide the boat from behind the vehicle up onto the crossbars without lifting it overhead. At 5.5 lbs in aluminum, it is one of the lightest load-assist options available. It is an accessory, not a full carrier — you still need saddles or J-cradles up front.

I won't sugarcoat it — loading a J-rack solo takes some practice. You're lifting the kayak overhead and tilting it into the cradle. With a lighter boat under 50 lbs, most people manage fine. For heavier kayaks, check out our lift-assist rack guide.

Most J-racks in this class handle 75–80 lbs per carrier, which covers the vast majority of recreational and touring kayaks. Always cross-reference your crossbar's weight limit too — that's often the real bottleneck. For pricing across weight classes, vedi our kayak rack pricing guide.

You absolutely can — just buy a second set of J-cradles for your crossbars. Most setups handle two kayaks side by side without issue, assuming your bars are wide enough. It's one of the J-rack's best tricks. For dedicated multi-boat setups, check la nostra guida multi-kayak.

You'll cradle the kayak on its side in the J, then run cam straps over the hull and through the rack. Most kits include straps, plus you'll want bow and stern tie-downs for highway driving. It's straightforward once you've done it a couple times. Vedi our J-rack guide per consigli.

I wouldn't recommend it — J-racks are shaped for kayak hulls, and most canoes are too wide to sit properly in the cradle. For canoe transport, you want a dedicated canoe carrier or at minimum a saddle-style rack. Check our hitch canoe rack guide for better canoe options.

Absolutely — J-racks are rock-solid at highway speeds when properly strapped. The angled position actually reduces wind resistance compared to flat mounting. Always use bow and stern tie-downs as backup, and do a strap check after the first 15 minutes. More in our J-rack guide.
