Roof Mounting
raised rails with factory rails
The Subaru Forester — both 5th generation (SK, 2019-2024) and 6th generation (2025+) — shares the Outback's signature feature: integrated swing-out crossbars built into raised roof rails, standard on every trim. Factory crossbars deploy from recessed channels with a key-lock mechanism, rated at 150 lbs dynamic / 700 lbs static. The Forester's crossbar spread is slightly shorter than the Outback due to its shorter roofline — approximately 30 inches default, expandable to 36 inches using the alternate rear anchor point. This still accommodates cargo boxes up to the Thule Motion 3 L (77 inches long) and all standard kayak carriers. For aftermarket crossbars: Thule Evo Raised Rail (710401) or Yakima TimberLine towers clamp to the raised rails. The rail profile is identical to the Outback and Crosstrek — Subaru standardized this across their lineup. Crossbar length is model-specific (Forester is narrower than Outback). The Wilderness trim (2022+ on 5th gen, 2025+ on 6th gen) adds the same D-ring tie-down hooks as the Outback Wilderness — four total, integrated into the rail end caps.
