Roof Mounting
flush rails with factory rails
The 5th-generation Lexus RX (AL20 platform, 2023+) features flush-mounted roof rails on all trims from Premium and above. Flush rails sit nearly level with the roof surface β no visible gap between rail and roof panel. This requires a different mounting approach than raised rails: you need flush-rail-specific towers like the Thule Evo Flush Rail (7106) or Yakima StreamLine system. Rail-to-rail span: approximately 44 inches. Maximum front-to-rear crossbar spread: 34 inches. The RX's gently curved roofline means crossbars will follow a slight arc when viewed from the side β this is normal and does not affect load capacity or box mounting. The Standard trim ships without roof rails entirely. For this trim, the Thule Evo Clamp (710501) with Lexus RX-specific Fit Kit 145XXX provides doorframe-clamping capability. This adds $80-120 to total system cost compared to flush-rail trims. [ADD PERSONAL EXPERIENCE] The F Sport Design and F Sport Performance trims include a unique panoramic glass roof panel that extends between the flush rails. This does not affect rail mounting geometry β the rails are structural members independent of the glass panel.
