Roof Mounting
flush rails with factory rails
The 4th-generation BMW X5 (G05, 2019+) offers two distinct roof mounting configurations depending on trim and options: flush-mounted roof rails (standard on xLine and xDrive40i packages) and bare-roof fixed-point mounting locations (available on M Sport packages without rails). For flush-rail equipped X5s: Thule Evo Flush Rail (7106) or Yakima StreamLine towers engage the rail's integrated T-slot channels. Rail-to-rail span: approximately 46 inches. Front-to-rear crossbar spread: up to 36 inches. The X5's roof geometry accommodates cargo boxes up to the Thule Motion 3 XL without overhang issues. For fixed-point (no-rail) X5s: BMW embeds four threaded mounting points beneath removable plastic covers on the roof edges. Thule Evo Fixpoint (7107) or the BMW OEM crossbar system (P/N 82-71-2-447-351) bolts directly to these points. This is the most secure mounting method β rigid bolted connection with zero clamping force required. [ADD PERSONAL EXPERIENCE] The roof antenna (shark fin) sits centered and rearward. On flush-rail models, the rear crossbar position should maintain 3 inches of clearance from the antenna base.
