Roof Mounting
flush rails with factory rails
The 2nd-generation Audi Q5 (FY platform, 2017+) features flush-mounted roof rails as standard equipment on Premium and above trims. Audi's rail implementation uses a proprietary T-slot profile β similar to but not identical to the BMW standard. Rail-to-rail span: approximately 42 inches. Front-to-rear crossbar spread: up to 34 inches. Thule Evo Flush Rail (7106) or Yakima StreamLine towers are the verified fitment options. Audi's proprietary rail profile means universal flush-rail towers may not seat properly β always verify Q5-specific compatibility in the manufacturer's fit guide. For the base Premium trim in markets without standard rails: Thule Evo Clamp (710501) with the Q5-specific fit kit provides doorframe clamping. The Q5's door frame geometry is well-suited for clamp-style mounting β wide contact surfaces and consistent edge profiles. [ADD PERSONAL EXPERIENCE] The SQ5 (performance variant) has identical roof rail geometry to the standard Q5 β the differences are powertrain and suspension, not body structure. All Q5 roof accessories work on the SQ5. [ADD ORIGINAL PHOTO]
