Colorado-based manufacturer specializing in premium hitch-mount bike racks.
Kuat is the rack brand that made hitch bike racks cool. Founded in 2009 in Springfield, Missouri, the company came out of nowhere with the NV, a tray-style hitch rack that looked like it belonged on a mountain-bike-shop showroom floor instead of in a catalog. The industry has been chasing that aesthetic ever since.
Kuat makes the NV, Sherpa (lightweight), Transfer, and Piston Pro platform-style hitch racks, plus hitch cargo trays and tiedowns. Everything they sell is designed to fold up, tilt down so you can still access the tailgate, and hold two or four bikes without touching frames. The finishes look expensive because they are.
Budget alert: a Kuat NV 2.0 Base for two bikes runs about $650. A Saris SuperClamp does the same job for half that. You're paying for finish, integrated locks, and the integrated bottle-opener bragging rights.
Did you know?
Every Kuat NV 2.0 hitch bike rack ships with an integrated bottle opener molded into the foot assembly — the founder's idea after too many post-ride beers fought over rusty multi-tools.
