About CURT

CURT Manufacturing is the biggest name in American hitches. Founded in 1993 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, the company makes Class Iā€“V hitch receivers, ball mounts, wiring harnesses, and cargo carriers. If you've bought a Class III hitch from Amazon or Walmart in the last decade, there is a very good chance it was a CURT.

For cargo carriers, CURT's 18153 and 18145 steel baskets are the workhorse options ā€” 500-pound capacity, 60x24 inches of usable space, and street prices under $200. They're not fancy. They're steel, powder-coated, and bolt-through solid.

CURT's also worth knowing because they own Lippert now, which means RV owners are buying CURT products whether they know it or not.

Did you know?

CURT Manufacturing was founded in 1993 in a two-car garage in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Today it's a subsidiary of Lippert Components and employs over 1,000 people across four U.S. manufacturing plants.

Frequently Asked Questions About CURT

CURT is primarily a hitch and towing hardware manufacturer ā€” they make solid steel cargo carriers and hitch accessories at budget-friendly prices ($80ā€“$200). Quality is good for the price but expect bare-bones: no folding mechanisms, basic powder coating, and functional-not-elegant design. They're a safe pick for hitch cargo baskets and receiver accessories.
CURT focuses on hitch-mounted cargo carriers, hitches, and towing accessories ā€” not roof racks or bike racks. If you need a hitch cargo basket or tray, CURT is a solid budget option. For bike racks, look at Kuat, Saris, or Allen Sports. For roof racks, look at Thule, Yakima, or Rhino-Rack.
Choose CURT when you need a no-frills hitch cargo carrier, hitch receiver, or towing accessory at a reasonable price. Their steel cargo baskets ($100ā€“$150) are workhorses for hauling coolers, lumber, and camping gear. Don't choose CURT for anything roof-mounted or bike-specific ā€” that's not their expertise.
