About Saris

Saris Cycling Group is the Wisconsin-based bike rack brand that makes the best value in the mid-tier. Founded in 1989 in Madison, Wisconsin, Saris started as Graber Products and has been family-owned the entire time. Everything they ship is built in a solar-powered facility right in Madison.

Saris makes hitch racks (SuperClamp, MHS, Freedom), trunk racks (Bones), roof racks, and indoor bike trainers (H3, M2). The SuperClamp EX 2-Bike at about $380 is one of the best dollar-per-feature hitch racks on the market — tray-style, tilt-away, no frame contact, for about half the price of a Kuat NV.

The catch: Saris had some well-publicized corporate trouble in 2022 and briefly filed Chapter 11. They emerged under new ownership, and existing warranties have been honored, but some enthusiasts stayed away. Worth watching how the new ownership treats quality.

Did you know?

Saris's headquarters in Madison is powered entirely by rooftop solar, and the company used to give employees free bikes as a signing bonus. The original "Bones" trunk rack name came from a Halloween costume contest in 1991.

Frequently Asked Questions About Saris

The Saris SuperClamp EX2 handles e-bikes up to 60 lbs per bike. Their budget Bones line maxes at 35 lbs per bike, which excludes most e-bikes. If e-bike compatibility matters, go SuperClamp or look at Kuat NV 2.0. This is the single most important spec to check before buying.
The Saris Bones is one of the most universally compatible trunk racks — it fits more vehicle shapes than most competitors. However, cars with spoilers, deep rear curves, or certain SUV tailgates may not work. Check their online Fit Guide with your exact year/make/model before purchasing.
The Bones is the best-selling trunk rack in America for good reason: it fits almost everything, installs in 5 minutes, folds flat for storage, and costs ~€139–173 for 2-bike capacity. It's molded from recycled materials and has injection-molded arms that won't rust. The trade-off vs. hitch racks: less secure, no lock, and it blocks trunk access while loaded.
Different buyers. Saris (Bones at ~€139–173) is for casual riders who want a simple, affordable rack they can throw on for weekend rides. Kuat (~€260–563) is for committed cyclists who load bikes weekly and want integrated locks, tilt access, and e-bike support. If you're debating between the two, ask: do I ride weekly or seasonally?
