Commercial-grade aluminum rooftop tent manufacturer. Expedition III used by expedition teams worldwide. Premium pricing.
Alu-Cab is the South African expedition vehicle outfitter founded in 2007 by Kurt Schoeman. They're at the very top end of the overlanding market, making aluminum canopies, camper shells, rooftop tents, and full expedition camper conversions.
The Khaya Prime and Gen 3.1 series of rooftop tents are hardshells designed to survive African safari conditions. Build quality is essentially tank-grade. Pricing is proportionally insane — a Gen 3.1 Khaya Prime is about $6,500 before awning and accessories.
If you're building a serious expedition rig, Alu-Cab is the brand that shows up on every Land Cruiser and Defender in Africa. For weekend warriors, it's overkill.
Did you know?
Alu-Cab was founded in Cape Town, South Africa in 2007 and every canopy and camper shell is still hand-riveted at their Somerset West factory. The company has built custom rigs for the Namibian wildlife authority and the South African anti-poaching patrol units.
